In this unit students will critically evaluate the factors involved in mental wellness and mental illness, and learn about the role of counselling practice in the field of mental health. They will appraise the developments and knowledge from the field of neuroscience and learn to apply this knowledge to the principles of mental health management in counselling practice. Students will also learn how to apply mental health assessment tools, conduct risk assessments, and examine the multidisciplinary approach to the management and treatment of the mental disorders. They will apply neuroscience insights to counselling interventions for common mental health problems.
